Dear bird and butterfly enthusiasts,
Always in search of the most spectacular
locale to bird and/or observe butterflies?
Search no moreBear's Den Cottages,
www.bearsdencottages.com, a Green and Socially
Responsible lodging business in Hocking County will
astound and amaze you. |

Located on 200 private acres you will find a beautiful
Lodge (sleeps 4-10) and a cozy cottage (sleeps 2),
completely separate, secluded and immersed in their own
glorious natural setting. The acreage provides the
perfect blend of woodland, woodland edge and meadows to
create the most desirable sanctuary for a large variety
of bird species. |

After hiking the beautiful natural
surroundings, come back to either the Lodge or Cottage
to view wildlife from the porches, decks or even inside
(both structures have large and many windows). Look out
of the large picture windows of the Lodge and view hawks
soaring in the nearby meadow, or sit on the cottage deck
to view them gliding gracefully through the forest.
Woodpeckers love to hang out at the topped trees (at
least one near each unit). With meadows full of
milkweed, butterfly weed and other native wildflowers,
Monarch and other butterfly species are waiting to
please your eyes. |

One of
our guests witnessed a ìNational Geographicî moment when
he observed a Golden Eagle in flight, snake dangling
from his beak.
Three years ago my husband, Mike, was
casually looking out of the Lodge window and spotted
what he later learned was a migrating Yellow Bellied Sap
Sucker in a nearby tree. In his research he found it to
be an endangered species in Ohio.

Avid birders over the years have made
long lists of species they have spotted on our
property. The richness and diversity has truly excited
them.
Although the birding and butterfly
observation at Bear's Den Cottages is phenomenal, we are
making strides for great improvement to increase our
guests' chance to view their natural friends up close.
With a degree in Landscape Architecture, background in
Horticulture and specialty garden design, I am going to
design and install specialty gardens near the Lodge that
will attract bird and butterfly species. Also as a part
of this enhancement will be an increase in other aviary
attractors such as special birdhouses and feeders. |

Green and Socially Responsible as a business, we tread
very lightly on the earth, understanding that the
measures we take (or, fail to take) directly affect the
ecosystems of the friends we hold so dear. We use only
all natural cleaning supplies, toiletries, recycled
paper, organic tea/organic fair trade coffee. We
require recycling.
In your search for Lodging in the Hocking
Hills, please give us a call. Let us know that you are
affiliated with a birding/butterfly group.
In respect for all of the earth and
inhabitants,
Gwen Corbett
